Membership Categories: 

Fellow: Oral and maxillofacial surgeons who are certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons are eligible for membership as Fellows. The individual must be licensed in medicine or dentistry in the jurisdiction where he/she practices oral and maxillofacial surgery, or in any US jurisdiction if practicing in the federal services. Only individuals licensed in the United States or Canada are eligible for membership as Fellows. Members accepted and designated as ACOMS Fellows under previous versions of the Bylaws will continue to be recognized as ACOMS Fellows despite subsequent Bylaws revisions. Fellows are required to pay fees and dues. Fellows have the right to vote and have the right to hold office.

Resident Member: Individuals who are enrolled at accredited oral and maxillofacial surgical training programs in the United States or Canada are eligible for membership as Resident Members during their residency training. Upon successful completion of their residency training, Resident Members may apply to become Associate Members. Resident Members are required to pay fees but not dues. Resident Members do not have the right to vote and do not have the right to hold office.

Associate Member: Oral and maxillofacial surgeons who have not yet been certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons are eligible for membership as Associate Members. The individual must be licensed in medicine or dentistry in the jurisdiction where he/she practices oral and maxillofacial surgery, or in any US jurisdiction if practicing in the federal services. Only individuals licensed in the United States or Canada are eligible for membership as Associate Members. When an Associate Member becomes certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, he/she will be eligible to apply for membership as a Fellow. Associate Members are required to pay fees and dues. Associate Members have the right to vote but do not have the right to hold office. 

Associate Member, First Year After Residency: OMS who have graduated from an accredited OMS residency program in the United States within the last year may apply for Associate Membership with their first year's dues waived. Such applicants must provide proof of graduation, and may be assessed an additional, elective fee for OOOO journal subscription or membership certificate. 

International Affiliate: Individuals who are not licensed in the United States or Canada but who practice oral and maxillofacial surgery outside the United or Canada are eligible for membership as International Affiliates. International Affiliates are required to pay fees and dues. International Affiliates do not have the right to vote and do not have the right to hold office.

Membership Dues: 

All membership dues are assessed on a calendar basis from September 1 through August 31 of the following year. 

Membership dues for Fellows, Associate Members and International Affiliate Members are $595 per year. 

Reduced price dues of $295 are available to full-time academic facility, active-duty military members, and surgeons in their first year after completing OMS residency. Membership dues are waived for residents. 

Pro-rated dues of one-half of the annual rate are assessed for applications received after January 1. After May 1, full-years dues will be assessed for new applicants but will run through August of the following year. First year membership dues include a one-time $50 application fee.
